April - Review of Legal Services Commission activities undertaken.
10 March - Meeting was attended by Education Queensland representatives. A report of this meeting and Family Law Matters and Schools is available to members.
29 February - Committee members attended a stakeholder meeting with Senator Ludwig, Minister for Human Services. Senator Ludwig is responsible for the service delivery of the Child Support Agency.
February - Committee members attended CSA stateholder briefing on the new Child Support arrangements commencing on 1 July 2008.
11 February - Presentation given on History of Attitudes to Divorce and what it means to our current Family Law system. A paper on this presentation is available to members.
14 January - New Brisbane Branch committee formalised.
Future Meetings:
An invitation has been forwarded to Senator Ludwig, Minister for Human Services to attend our July or August 2008 meeting. The opportunity was discussed with Senator Ludwig at a recent Stakeholder meeting. Other local politicians will also be invited. Planning is underway for other meetings in other months on topics relevant to members.
Next Meeting
12 May 2008 - A presentation from the Kid's Helpline will be given, followed by a Committee meeting including a report on the Stakeholder Engagement Group meeting and other activities.
About the Brisbane Branch
The Brisbane Branch gathers at 7.00 pm on the second Monday of each month at the Brisbane Workers Community Centre, 2 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington.
Each month there is a guest speaker or presentation on topics relevant to LFA members. Subject to member needs, advice on child support and legal matters can be arranged.
Our Branch is an active stakeholder with Government and other agencies.
